El Yunque

El Yunque National Forest is a tropical rainforest in the United States, and it’s in Puerto Rico.  Getting there is an easy day trip from San Juan by car.  There’s a visitor center near the entrance, which is helpful because you’ll find people who can answer questions and make suggestions about how to spend your time there.  It’s a good idea to bring a picnic lunch if you can because there are picnic areas with great views of the rainforest.  There are some parrots at El Yunque, but unfortunately I didn’t see any while I was there.

Old San Juan

One of the most charming areas of San Juan, Puerto Rico is Old San Juan.  It has beautiful pastel colored buildings, cobblestone streets and an impressive fort that once protected the city.  There is a thick wall with guard towers that provided protection against invaders. Today though, the ships on the horizon are cruise ships, as opposed to the pirate vessels of previous centuries.
